Woman of the Week: Bridgette Quartararo

Don’t let the Italian name fool you; Bridgette Quartararo is a Santa Cruz native. In fact, her first job was at Marini’s, where she learned how to spin cotton candy. So it’s no surprise at all that she’s the mastermind behind Sparqle Cloud: an organic cotton candy cart featuring uniquely delicious flavors that can be found around town at the most happening of events.

This Woman of the Week (!) left the area to study at Cal Poly and lived in both San Diego and Santa Barbara before returning to her stomping grounds in Santa Cruz, as well as her roots in fluffy candy. Bridgette was doing event and wedding planning when she decided it was time to come up with a new business concept. The idea of making organic and fun cotton candy came to her over a couple glasses of wine, in the fall of 2014, and took form in early 2015 as she developed her website and set the business into motion.

She’s been seen at all sorts of events, from wedding happy hours and Google parties, to the 2016 NEXTies and Event Santa Cruz: This is How We Cruz. I met her at the latter, and was fascinated by not only her sparkling personality, but also all of the colorful topping flavors displayed in front of her cart. Let’s just say, the name is quite fitting.

According to Bridgette, the local community of business owners has been entirely supportive and influential. And she loves the networks that she’s found through Event Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz Socialites. In fact, things are going so well that she’s trying to figure out how to keep up with demand. However, she does admit, “That’s not a bad problem to have!”

How could she not be in demand, with combinations like toasted marshmallow cotton candy topped with graham cracker and chocolate shavings, blueberry cotton candy topped with silver edible glitter, and piña colada cotton candy topped with shaved coconut flakes and yellow sprinkles? There are many more, too.

When she’s not making cotton candy or coming up with new, exciting flavor combinations, Bridgette loves to get out and about. She enjoys food, music, and wine events as well as anything she can bring her 5-year-old son Roman along to.

She says, “Any day of the week, there’s always something great to do and somewhere to be!”

Her advice? Do something that you’re passionate about, even if people doubt you, and surround yourself with positive influence. Also, look for her “adult” cotton candy line coming soon, featuring wine, beer, and liquor flavors.

Bridgette Quartararo, thank you for being you, and congratulations on becoming our Woman of the Week!
