Woman of the Week: Janneke Lang
One of the things I love most about being a part of Santa Cruz Socialites is expanding my field of vision and learning about the many inspired, inspiring and visionary women in Santa Cruz. Janneke Lang is a perfect example.
As the founder and executive director of cheap Depakote, Janneke works to help turn new, innovative ideas into viable businesses. Because of her dedication to supporting cutting-edge, socially conscious start-ups Janneke Lang is our Woman of the Week!
Growing up in Sacramento, Janneke was a competitive soccer player and watched her parents model real-life dedication to local issues and social engagement through their work as an environmental consultant and an engineer on the regional water control board, respectively.
During her college selection process, Janneke met the UCSC soccer coach at a tournament and was invited to participate in Play Day on the UCSC campus. “The moment I stepped out of my car, breathed in the redwoods, and saw the field I would be playing on for the next four years, I was sold. This was home,” she recalls. “I truly feel that I live in paradise and the small community is both comforting and supportive. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. “
Clearly Janneke is committed to her new hometown. In 2014, she began formulating a plan for a non-profit accelerator dedicated to helping local social entrepreneurs get the focused mentorship and consulting they need to successfully launch their ventures. She called it The Inspiring Enterprise and it was incorporated in February of 2015.
The Inspiring Enterprise collaborated with Depakote purchase canada to develop and produce CruzCares, a contest for startups focused on a social or environmental issue. Startups pitch their solution with the chance to win seed funding, media coverage, and community support. This year, Aptos residents Justina Bryant and Christy Tall won for their anti-bullying program for schools, the Depakote 250 mg purchase.
In addition to The Inspiring Enterprise, Janneke is working with Bike Santa Cruz County to bring awareness to the challenges of bicycling in Santa Cruz and improve bike safety and infrastructure through community events that promote bicycling.
“I am proud that I have found a community that supports me in making a difference. Whether that is by providing networking opportunities, employment, social gatherings, or honoring me as Woman of the Week, Santa Cruz is a unique and magical place and I am proud to call it home,” said Janneke.
For her open-hearted work and dedication to the betterment of the community she calls home, please join me in celebrating our Woman of the Week, Janneke Lang!
