Woman of the Week: Jennalee Dahlen
Jennalee Dahlen, mother of three and owner/esthetician at Santa Cruz Skin Solutions & Integrated Wellness, is dedicated to promoting skin health and holistic wellness, helping those going through cancer, and being involved in the community. For our Woman of the Week, a career as an esthetician was clearly kismet, as she couldn’t be happier than when she’s helping people achieve their desires for their skin, giving them “True Care from Skin to Soul.”
Although Jennalee grew up in Sonoma, it may come as a surprise to learn that she’s actually Japanese. And she’s a twin. She also was a competitive swimmer for 18 years, aimed for the Olympics with seven All American and National Times. Fatefully thwarted by a shoulder injury that required surgery, she met her husband on her parent’s property in Sonoma during the time she would have been at the Olympics. She happily moved to Santa Cruz to live with him, and the rest is history.
Surrounded by mountains and the ocean, within driving distance to San Franciso and the snow, Jennalee loves Santa Cruz. “I feel like I am always on vacation here, even when I am working.”
When Jennalee had her first daughter six years ago, she became an esthetician. Just two short years later and one week after giving birth to her second daughter, she signed the lease for Santa Cruz Skin Solutions, becoming not only a mother of two, but an entrepreneur as well. After her third daughter arrived on the scene, she expanded beyond skincare to body treatments, adding “& Integrated Wellness” to her business. Now, although she’s not having a fourth baby, she’s again expanding her business – this time to a second location.
After seeing her mother, family members and friends battle with cancer, Jennalee became certified as an Oncology Esthetician two and a half years ago. She finds deep meaning in being able to help those going through cancer with the effects it has on their skin.
“Having had my mom battle breast cancer as well as my other family and friends experience cancer, it is so important to me that if someone needs help with their skin or just wants a quiet moment to relax, I can safely give it,” she says.
Jennalee is not only involved extensively in the community through sponsoring, donating to, and attending various events, from Lunafest to Earth Day to Food Trucks A Go-Go. She is one of the founding board members of the Santa Cruz Children’s Museum of Discovery and Co-Director of a new Jacob’s Heart Program: Camp Heart + Hands. This is a free summer camp designed to “support the entire family of a child or adolescent as they journey through the cancer experience.”
Please join me in congratulating our Woman of the Week: Jennalee Dahlen! We celebrate you for your dedication to the community, the support you offer those with cancer and their families, and your constant quest for knowledge in the skincare and wellness fields. And we can’t wait to hear more about your second location!
